Nothing Happens Till Something Moves …
One of the hardest things to do is to get started. I’ve been talking about starting a blog for more than 6 months, but things kept just getting in the way. An update to RapidNicheWebsites. Holidays. A motherboard packing up. Being sucked in by the WordPress 2.1 upgrade. And suddenly, 6 months have flown by …
You can think about something all you like, but until you take action, all you have is ideas. Best intentions. And wasted opportunities…
Why’s it so difficult to get started?
Is it too much ‘noise’ - due to dealing with support tickets? Possibly spending too much time in forums - mine as well as those I belong to. Of course the deluge of emails flooding into my Outlook every day doesn’t help.
All these contribute. But the real criminal - without a doubt - is the fact that I didn’t prioritize setting up a blog. Somehow I didn’t feel tremendously motivated.
Pretty dumb considering that blogs are an established marketing tool. A proven way of gathering prospects. Building relationships. Growing your customer value. A marketing process that can be worth many thousands of dollars a year if you do it right.
I must be nuts! I know WordPress backwards, I know blogs add value to your business, and yet I procrastinated with setting up a blog for months.
The problem is - it’s so easy to fall back into a technical role. Solving client’s problems by tweaking some code. Making a minor, or even major design changes to the Rapid Niche Websites System. And with each change, comes the responsibilities of updating the e-book, creating a new installation program, uploading the installation program. And then of course there is the inevitable testing, and fixing little details you’ve missed. I guess I was just sticking with activities that I’ve done well for the past 20 years. Staying in a comfort zone - rather than focusing on the more important marketing activities.
The Title - ‘Nothing Happens Till Something Moves…’
This is actually the sub-title of Robert Ringer’s excellent book - Action. He in turn attributes the quote to Einstein.
I not only have the book (plus a few more of his) - I also have 3 CDs of him being interviewed about the Action book - and when you listen to them a couple of times, the message does eventually sink in. Without action you have nothing. Just wasted opportunities.
He makes so many great points about why people get stuck in inaction mode. One that is pretty relevant to Internet Marketing - and my case - is the act of writing. There are many, many unfinished books due to people waiting to be motivated before they start writing. His advice - start writing even when you’re not in the mood for writing - and then motivation will come after a few minutes.
So - if you’ve been stuck in inactivity mode - perhaps neglecting to write some blog entries, holding back on that series of articles that will drive traffic to your sites, neglecting that auto responder series, or waiting for divine intervention before you start that e-book - start writing. You’ll get yourself started on the road of success, and you’ll feel so much better.
I know I do…
